PRINCE’S TRUST AUSTRALIA CHAMPIONS YOUTH, VETERANS AND SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITIES
The Prince’s Trust Australia today unveiled its 2019-22 strategic plan at Admiralty House on the 71st birthday of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, President of this Australian charity. At the event, hosted by Their Excellencies, General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Hurley, Trustees, Patrons, staff and supporters were treated to a video message from His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales.
John Landerer CBE AM, Prince’s Trust Australia Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Christopher John, shared the vision for the Trust, which aims to address the needs in Australia within these key areas – at-risk young people, veterans and their families and sustainable building practice.
Prince’s Trust Australia is an independent not-for-profit. “We share a social responsibility to address the challenges we face through our core initiatives, which are fully funded by the generous philanthropic contributions of our Australian Patrons,” said Mr Landerer.
“Over the next three years, we will support 4,000 young people with skills so they can fulfil their true potential in the face of emerging technologies which are transforming the nature of work,” said Mr John. “We will assist 800 veterans and family members with mentoring programs to propel them towards self-employment – ours is the only Australian charity offering veterans this kind of enterprise skills training. And following the success of Prince’s Terrace, Adelaide, completed in 2017 in collaboration with Defence Housing Australia, we will continue to showcase best practice initiatives in sustainable urbanism through the built environment.
“Today is a chance to showcase to our supporters the widespread impact we have delivered to date. But we remain mindful that in order to expand the scope of our activities across more Australian cities, and provide targeted, meaningful support to those who need it, we must also extend our Patron and fundraising circle.”
Custodianship is key to this. Director of Philanthropy, Claire McCarthy said, “our Patrons – all very successful businesspeople – are encouraged to be, and they want to be, involved in our programs. They get to witness the life-changing reverberations of their financial and mentoring contributions alongside us. We cannot provide these opportunities without their generosity.”
