The Chief Executive of The Prince’s Trust Australia Ms Janine Kirk AM, has announced her retirement, and will be leaving the organisation at the end of the year.
Ms Kirk is the founding Chief Executive of the organisation in Australia, previously known as The Prince’s Charities Australia until July 2017, when it became part of The Prince’s Trust Global group. Over her six-year career building the not-for-profit under the guidance of His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, Ms Kirk has spearheaded projects focusing on young people, defence members and their families, environment and sustainability, sustainable urbanism, mental health, arts and culture, indigenous communities and rural and regional initiatives.
Ms Kirk commented that “it has been an honour to play a small part in the charitable endeavours of His Royal Highness in support of his lifelong commitment to making a difference in people’s lives. His commitment to Australia and the Australian community since he first visited as a young man in 1966 has been steadfast, and continues today through the work of His Australian charity”.
Ms Kirk’s commitment to providing people new life opportunities saw the launch of Enterprise for Veterans (formerly Prince’s Lead Your Own Business), a program design to assist transitioning defence members and their families realise their potential in small business. Over the years, this program has impacted over 86 defence families looking to develop new business ventures following their ADF careers.
In 2015, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales ‘turned the first sod’ of what would become the multi-award winning Prince’s Terrace Adelaide, which officially opened in 2017. This exemplar housing project, in collaboration with Defence Housing Australia, is the first residential development in Australia to receive a 6 Star Green Star design rating, setting sustainability standards for Australian developments.
Chairman John Landerer CBE AM stated “It’s an exciting time for The Prince’s Trust Australia and its continual growth would not have been possible without the passion and dedication of Ms Kirk since its inception. Countless lives have been positively impacted through the tireless work of Ms Kirk. We wish her all the very best in the adventure ahead”.
