16 Feb The Prince’s Trust Australia Design Jam with CommBank
The transition from full-time military service to civilian life is often a challenging one. For personnel interested in a career in small business, the process can create additional challenges for our transitioning veterans.
The Prince’s Trust Australia, through its Prince’s Lead Your Own Business program, offers entrepreneurial defence personnel the skills, networks, and confidence they need to start or scale a career in small business.
As part of this program, The Prince’s Trust Australia partnered with Commonwealth Bank’s Innovation Lab to deliver a full-day design thinking workshop for The Prince’s Lead Your Own Business program alumni and their business partners.
Each business paired with a dedicated CommBank volunteer to help facilitate solutions for consultancies and consumer product companies, a fitness studio, bespoke brewery, and a property management business.
The workshop challenged traditional approaches to complex problems and encouraged participants to innovate collaboratively, ultimately helping our alumni develop human-centered, sustainable solutions to their business problems.
Chief Executive of the Prince’s Trust Australia Janine Kirk AM remarks: “Supporting our alumni beyond the scope of the Prince’s Lead Your Own Business program is integral to their success as small business owners and entrepreneurs. We’re delighted to work with Commonwealth Bank of Australia – a leader in business innovation – to offer new tools and strategies for veteran-owned businesses.”
2017 alumnus Scott Jetson worked with a CommBank volunteer to develop an online experience for boutique wine enthusiasts through his business The Wine Crowd: “The design thinking process was incredibly helpful. It challenges you to isolate your business problem and develop a targeted solution. At the end of the day, I not only had a viable solution in hand, but also a new way of thinking about future challenges I might face.”
