Message from the Chairman

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Christopher John as the new Chief Executive of The Prince’s Trust Australia, and Claire McCarthy as PTA’s new Director of Philanthropy. Christopher will start on Monday, 25 March and Claire joins us the following week on Monday, 1 April.

These vital appointments are critical to the future success of PTA. The Board of Trustees looks forward to working closely with Christopher and Claire, as we deliver on our mission to transform lives and build sustainable communities in Australia.

We are now driving forward our three main programs – helping young people and military veterans with the enterprise skills they need to succeed; and leading the way in building sustainable communities through innovative design. I have every confidence that PTA can now make a real difference for Australians.

Christopher John was previously the Chief Executive of two regional Australian charities, Lifeline Hobart (based in Tasmania) and United Synergies Limited (based in Queensland). He brings a deep understanding of the challenges facing many Australian families, along with a real passion for delivering high-quality support to those in need. Christopher is experienced in the delivery of services across child protection, homelessness, training and employment, mental health, suicide prevention and suicide bereavement. He led both Lifeline Hobart and United Synergies through substantial growth and improved measurable impact for their beneficiaries.

“I am truly delighted to be joining The Prince’s Trust Australia as Chief Executive. Together with our valued supporters, partners and colleagues, I am determined to increase the scale and meaningful impact of our work in Australia. I look forward to meeting you all, and building on PTA’s foundations.”  – Christopher John, Chief Executive, Prince’s Trust Australia

Claire McCarthy has led the fundraising and philanthropy function for a range of non-profit organisations, most recently with Bear Cottage Children’s Hospice in Sydney and the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Foundation. Claire has extensive experience in developing philanthropic strategies, stakeholder engagement and income generation. She has a Graduate Diploma in Clinical Counselling.

“It is a great honour to be joining The Prince’s Trust Australia. I look forward to working in partnership with the Australian philanthropic community and with the PTA Board to help transform lives through the innovative programs run by the Prince’s Trust in Australia and around the world.” – Claire McCarthy, Director of Philanthropy, Prince’s Trust Australia
